Antique late Victorian to Edwardian metal Strong Box – George Bowley, Loughborough c.1900.
This authentic piece of social history features bold, hand-stenciled cream lettering across the lid reading:
"GEORGE BOWLEY, 38 OXFORD STREET, LOUGHBOROUGH."
Historical research traces this box to a local framework knitter named George Bowley, who lived at this exact address from the 1890s until his passing in 1911. This places the age of the box firmly between c. 1895 and 1911. Boxes like this were used by individuals to safely store family wills, tenancy agreements, and cash before widespread high-street banking.
